Ruby F. Black, 89, of Mound Valley, died at 7:45 A.M., Monday, January 27, 2025 at the Oswego Health and Rehab facility.
She was born February 10, 1935 at Rural Cherryvale, a daughter of Charles and Zenobia Eva (Thomas) Reed. She was raised at Cherryvale, Dennis and Mound Valley and attended elementary school at Cherryvale. She later attended and graduated from the Labette County Community High School with the Class of 1951.
On February 6, 1954 she and Robert L. Black were united in marriage at Oswego. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2009.
She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church. She enjoyed working Sudoku and crossword puzzles. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and passed out Juicy Fruit gum to her students.
Survivors include: one son – Steve Black (Nancy), Rural Mound Valley; two daughters – Debbie Barragar (Craig), Rural Mound Valley, Marla Sexton (Jeff), Rural Altamont; seven grandchildren – Angie Fogleman (Tim), Rural Parsons, Charlie Black, Rural Mound Valley. Wendi Black, Rural Mound Valley, Kristin Harlan, Rural Mound Valley, Michael Sexton (Sara), Rural Mound Valley, Tiffani Garrelts (Andrew), Grimes, IA, Justin Sexton (Madeline), Cherokee; sixteen Great-grandchildren; three Great-great grandchildren, including Sweet Pea; one sister – Waydella Hart, Oologah, OK. She was preceded in death by one brother – George Reed; two sisters – Doris York and Pat Studebaker and one daughter – Dawn Michelle Black.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Pleasant Hill Church with Tony Encarnacion officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at the CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME. Memorials are suggested to the Pleasant Hill Church or to Crown of Power Equine Therapy. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357. Online condolences may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
