Ruby "Johnson" Bowling

Ruby Johnson Bowling (81) of Falmouth, KY, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at her home. She was born in Hazard, KY, on April 11, 1945, daughter of the late George and Edna Wilson Johnson.

Ruby was a hardworking and dedicated businesswoman who spent much of her life serving her community. Alongside her husband, she proudly owned and operated Vern and Ruby's in Melbourne, KY, for 25 years, creating a welcoming place for friends and neighbors to gather. In addition to this, she owned Ruby's Beauty Salon in Covington, Kentucky, where she built lasting relationships and helped others feel their best. Her commitment to her work and the people she served left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Ruby is survived by her sons Darrell Bowling and Scott Bowling, brothers Junior and Arbert Johnson, sister Linda Howe, grandchildren Kayla Rea, Nitaya, Elexus, Tessa Dawn, Derek Scott, Anthony Gage, Jonathon, Bradley, and Charley, and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Bowling, son Donald Ray Bowling, and brothers Charley, Floyd, Raymond, and Barlow Johnson, sisters Nadine Brown, Gladys Brewer, and Lois Brown.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Peoples Funeral Home in Butler. The funeral will follow at 1:00 pm, also at the funeral home.
