Laura Catherine Cayton Carter, 72, of Elgin, Texas, passed away on September 18, 2025. She was born in Houston, Texas, and later made her home in Elgin, where she was deeply loved by her family and friends. Laura was a gifted artist, whose drawings and sculptures reflected her creativity and spirit. She also shared her talents and knowledge as a devoted teacher, inspiring many through her work in the classroom. Beyond her art and teaching, she found joy in running and was rarely seen without the beloved dogs who accompanied her everywhere.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mary Cayton; her husband, Robert Carter III; and her son, Chad Maness.
She is survived by her son, Jared Maness and his wife Christy; her two granddaughters, Gracelyn and Addison Maness; her Sister, Marsha Cayton and her husband John LaHam; and her nephew, David Doctor and his wife Aashika.
Laura will be remembered for her creative spirit, her devotion to family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her memory and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of Laura’s life will be held at the Cayton Ranch in McDade, Texas, 772 Marlin Street, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for an afternoon meal and fellowship in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
