Ruby Joan Burris, age 86 of
Belton, Missouri formerly of Ballard, Missouri died Sunday, March 29, 2026 in
Belton, Missouri surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born June 13, 1939 to Amos Wesley and Ada Verla Zinn Drysdale in
Butler, Missouri.
Ruby, one of two children, grew up in Bates County, Missouri. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1957 with 16 other students. She lived in several different areas before settling in Belton. Ruby was united in marriage to Gailen Burris and to this union, three children were born. Ruby worked as a Key Punch Operator for an oil company from 1968 until her retirement in 2004.
Ruby was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who always put family first. She lived a life of kindness and steadfast commitment to the people she loved most. Ruby would often stop whatever she was doing and give her full attention to any family member that needed it. From birthdays to holidays Ruby loved sharing her homemade sugar cookies–a tradition that she hoped would continue on. Ruby also had an adventurous spirit and loved to experience new places through travel. At the age of 72 she took her first cruise, which became a favorite way of traveling. Ruby had an affection for gardening and put her green thumb to good use, from growing tasty tomatoes and various other vegetables, to the most beautiful roses on the block. She was a generous and gracious lady who gave of herself in ways both large and small. Her legacy will live on in the memories of family, friends and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Ruby is survived by three children, Vickie Greer and husband Bobby of
Belton, Missouri, Stan Burris and wife Brenda of Osceola, Missouri and Debbie Kelley of Blue Springs, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Mike (Jamie) Greer, Travis Greer, Bethany (Travis) Mauton, Mandy (Drew) King, Amy (Cory) Jackson, Brooke (Joey) Strode and Zack (Lauren) Kelley; 16 great-grandchildren, Madison, Katie, Gwen and Vivian Greer; Naomie, Roz and El Greer; Amos and Jude Mauton; Cedar, Aspen and Olson King; Laramie and Kelby Brooks; and Logan and Landon Strode; and one sister, Shirley Harris and husband Bill of Raymore, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gailen Burris; and companion, John Pellham.
