Ruby D. Butler

Ruby D. Butler (Pettaway) was born January 04, 1946 to the late James and Ida Pettaway. Ruby departed from her life on January 04, 2026; her 80th birthday. She attended Waite High school. She left behind a legacy of hard work and a kitchen that was always open. Ruby grew up surrounded by family and learned early on the value of connection and resilience.

Many in the community knew Ruby from her 20+ years of dedicated service at Jeep, but she was perhaps most beloved for her role as a restaurateur. Ruby opened her first restaurant called Deli and More in 2003 and then Ruby's Kitchen in 2005. She didn't just serve meals; she shared her heart. Whether she was on the assembly line or behind the stove, Ruby approached everything with a strength that was uniquely hers.

She is survived by her Daughters: Sabrena Chatman, Sonda Hicks-Reid (Marvin), and Charvette Chatman-Payteon (Pat), Sons: Scott Atkins, Cary Butler Jr., and Kendrick Watkins, Grandchildren: Dr. Mieasha Barksdale (Derek), Devon Hicks, Mariah Coutchure, Jonna Hicks, Sabrena Hicks-Belcher (Bryce), Tarena Chatman, Shaila Warr, and Alyssa Autman, Daughter in Law: Veronica Hicks, Special sister: Frankie Glover, Special nephew: Ron Davis, Seven great granddaughters and five great grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She proceeded in her death by her parents James and Ida Pettaway, siblings: Rebecca Terrell, Bill Pettaway, Dave Pettaway, Eugene Pettaway, Mary Goodlow, Joe Pettaway, Major Pettaway, Caroline Pettaway, Jimmy Pettaway, Ida Davis, and Richard Pettaway Sr, son: Jonathan Hicks and her granddaughter: La Tasha Hicks.

A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
