Ruby Faye Carter, 86, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in San Antonio, TX.
Ruby was born to the late Leon Koenig and Anita Wahl Koenig in Loma Vista, Wilson County, TX on October 22, 1937. Moving to San Antonio to attend Harlandale High School, she lived with her aunts Marian and Ida, and worked part time as a catalogue clerk at Sears & Roebuck. She graduated in 1955. It was while working at Sears that she met Kenneth Leon Carter. They married on August 3, 1957. As their family started to grow, Ruby decided to be a full-time homemaker, while continuing to earn an income by taking in people's clothes to iron. After the children were old enough, Ruby accepted a full-time position at the administration office for Harlandale ISD, as the secretary for the assistant superintendent. She dedicated 20 years there and then joined Leon in retirement in 1994. Ruby became an avid gardener, master of crossword puzzles and an excellent seamstress, making many clothing items for her family, Barbie doll outfits, costumes, and drapes. She was also a talented cook. Her famous coconut cream pie was always a family favorite. Ruby's commitment to her family was evident in the large gatherings she loved to host for almost every occasion. Birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas holidays were especially memorable. Ruby was always up for a variety of card games and dominoes, but you'd better have a sense of humor when playing because she had a special way of making people laugh. Ruby will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Ruby is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Kenneth Leon Carter; daughter, Rhonda Balsley (Jack); sons, Roger Carter (Ann), Ronald Carter; grandchildren, Elliott Balsley, Sonny Hawkins, Jonathan Carter (Stacie); great grandchildren, Hailey Hawkins, Avery Hawkins and Radek Carter; siblings, Roy Koenig (JoAnn), Rose Earls (Harold), Ralph Koenig and Randy Koenig and sister-in-law Gloria Koenig; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Koenig and sisters- in-law Caroline Koenig and Mary Koenig.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Dellcrest Funeral Home, 2023 W.W. White Road, San Antonio, TX 78222. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Dellcrest Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Black Hill Cemetery, Atascosa, TX.

Pall bearers are her grandsons, Sonny Hawkins, Elliott Balsley and Jonathan Carter, nephews Rodney Koenig, Ragan Koenig and Michael Koenig. Honorary pallbearer is great grandson Radek Carter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Kidney Fund. Checks may be mailed to 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD, 20852. Online donations can be made in Ruby's name at www.kidneyfund.org.
