Ruby Chambers

Ruby Chambers was born June 27, 1927, to Vassie Gulledge and Gertrude Moses-Gulledge in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Melvin Clyde McKinney, Jr; and former husband, Clyde McKinney, Sr; former husband, William K. Chambers; sisters, Elise Holloman, Hattie West, Eva Howard; brothers, Arisher Gulledge and James W. Gulledge, and daughter-in-law, Toni McKinney.
She was the fourth of seven children. She married Clyde McKinney at an early age. From that union five children were born: Melvin, Charles, Sheron, Ruby, and Darrell.
Ruby did home childcare for twenty years in her home. She loved caring for children, family gatherings, planning family reunions, cooking, music, and playing cards. She liked traveling, especially to Memphis, TN, spending time with her siblings, and other family members.
Ruby attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO where she served on the First Aide Board. She loved God and everyone knew Ruby by her waving her hands and shouting AMEN!!
She was always willing to help her children and grandchildren when she could. Ruby departed this life on Saturday April 1, 2023. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Charles "Baby Ray" McKinney (Elois), Sheron "Cookie" Henson, (Leslie), Cynthia Holmes (Glen), Ruby "Dede/Bombus" Bonner (Terry Bonner, Sr) and Darrell McKinney Sr.), thirteen grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and special friend Joy "Joy Buggy" Bonner.
