Mrs. Ruby Perez Hernandez, 78, entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Ruby was born to Miguel and Alicia Perez on August 25, 1945, in Laredo, Texas. She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter. Ruby died peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was a graduate of Martin High School Class of ’63. Ruby was employed by the Laredo Independent School District, where she served the district for 32 years in the Child Nutrition Program. She was a faithful parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic church. Ruby served in several ministries, including Altar Society, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and ACTS. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. After retirement, Ruby spent most of her time doting on her four grandchildren and traveling abroad with friends. Ruby volunteered her time at Border Nutrition where she served on the board. She also enjoyed the company of many friends and loved ones who will miss her generous spirit and faithful friendship.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Alicia Perez, and brothers Jimmy and Mike, niece Patsy Perez, and Xavier Hernandez, father of her daughters. Left behind to cherish her memory are her brother Patricio Perez and her daughters Christina Pedraza and Theresa Tijerina. Her sons-in-law, Carlos Pedraza and Gabriel Tijerina, and her grandchildren, Cristoval and Carolina Pedraza, Andres, and Sofia Tijerina, sisters -in- law Joann and Adelfa Perez as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and lifelong friends.
The family is incredibly grateful to Dr. Carlos Espinoza, Dr. Zuniga-Goldwater, and the ICU staff at Doctor’s Hospital in Laredo and Metropolitan Methodist in San Antonio.
The family invites those wishing to attend the Mass of Resurrection, to join them on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 9:00 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
A Memorial Visitation and Prayer Service will be held from 5 to 9 PM at Hillside Funerals and Cremations; where the Rosary will be offered for the eternal repose of her soul by her community of St John Neumann at 7 pm.
A private interment of her ashes will be held at a later date in a private ceremony.
