Ruby "Jeanie" Dethlefsen, age 86, of Rothschild, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Wausau Manor after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Jeanie was born on October 16, 1937, in Manilla, Iowa, to the late Howard and Anna (Schwieso) Steffen. She was the middle child, cherished alongside her siblings, Bud and Nancy. Jeanie fell in love with her next-door neighbor, Ronald Dethlefsen, Jeanie and Ron were united in marriage on January 11, 1958, in Sioux City, Iowa.
Jeanie earned her bachelor's degree in nursing and dedicated many years to her career as a registered nurse. However, with the arrival of her first child, Brian, she embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom, a position in which she truly excelled. Jeanie was a devoted wife and an amazing mother, nurturing her family with love and compassion. Brian preceded Jeanie in death on August 28, 1973.
Always an active church member, Jeanie's love for her Lord was evident in all she did. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Jeanie is survived by her husband of 66 years Ronald Dethlefsen; daughter Jaynee (John) Byers; grandchildren Adam (Marcie) Byers, Megan (John) Felker and Erica (Kellen) Bernhardt; great grandchildren Ava, Lexi and Jack Byers, Beckett, Madelynn and Garrett Felker, and Bristol, Beckham, Ruby and Johnny Bernhardt; and many nieces and nephews.
