Ruby Jene Draper, age 73, passed away on January 16, 2025. She was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on January 2, 1952, to Bobby Lewis and Roberta “Shorty” (Harwell) Lewis.
Ruby was raised in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. After graduating from Tecumseh High School in 1971, she attended East Central University receiving her bachelor’s degree in education and later returned to earn her master’s degree in education. On November 12, 1982, Ruby married Mike Draper of Shawnee.
Ruby was a teacher at Maud Elementary and in Shawnee Public Schools at Will Rogers Elementary for a total of 37 years. After retirement she worked part time at Paul’s Place Steak House as a hostess. She loved going to her son’s baseball games, going to karaoke, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Ruby was a great friend to many and always there for anyone who needed something. She is missed by many former coworkers, friends, classmates, and family.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby and Roberta Lewis.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Mike, of the home; son, Breck Draper and wife Lauren of Tuttle, OK; son, Riley Draper of Prague, OK; Katelyn Draper of Prague, OK; stepson, Scott Draper and his wife Leslie of California; stepdaughter, Tracy Akins and her husband John of Shawnee, OK; grandchildren: Ripken, Teague, Oakley, Rhettley, Brixley, Huntley, Tatum, Avery, and Piper (Draper), and Brittany, Brooklyn, Bethany, and Bryce (Akins); five great grandchildren and many extended family members.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 21, 2025, 12:00 – 7:00 P. M., at AE Funeral Services Chapel, 603 W. Independence St., Shawnee, Oklahoma, 74804. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, 2:30 P.M., at AE Funeral Services Chapel with Brother Mike Craig of Temple Baptist Church officiating.
