Memories of my father come to mind. I always heard the Name "Ruby Duke" as a child and adult. I am the daughter or Jackson Douglas Large and Hazel Large, granddaughter of William Jefferson Large and Mabel Large. We all mourn the loss of a generation in our family, but feel blessed to be a part of this family.

Like so many others, I have had the joy of meeting Miss Ruby thru family reunions. She truly made a person understand the meaning of family. I want to extend my sympathy for your loss.

In our childhood, my first cousin Ruby and I formed a loving relationship that caused us to know what the word “Family” meant. This relationship has enriched our lives for a time span of about ninety years and the memory of her will enrich my life for as long as I live.

As a young girl, I would go to the Large family reunion with my grandmother Mamie Large West and her sister Susie Large Causey Dykes. We would stay with their neice Maggie and visit with another niece Ruby Duke. I liked Ruby then; but over the years, I grew to love and appreciate her as a very special cousin. Ruby loved family and was the best repository of everything there was to know about the Large family in Coosa County Alabama. Many times, I've ridden the road from Sylacauga to Mt. Olive and delighted in hearing Ruby tell the stories of the family of Joseph and Sarah Anne Large. A bit of laignaippe was that Ruby looked just like my grandmother!
I am very sad to think that Ruby won't be slicing any more of her good tomatoes for me to eat, but I have no doubt that she is in heaven right now asking Sarah Ann Otwell and Isoline Victoria Robinson the questions that we always wanted to know the answers to.
We all share her children's grief and we are all a little better for having had Ruby Duke in our lives.
I pray that those who mourn her will know God's love in this time of sadness.
