The late Deacon Richard and Deaconess Georgia Berry Smith, brought into this world their little baby girl, Ruby Lee Smith. Ruby was born on March 6, 1937, in Cherry Lake, Florida. She was the sixth of six children. Her home church and spiritual upbringing began at Spark Level Missionary Baptist Church in Cherry Lake, Florida. She was a part of the family choir, "The Richard Smith Family Gospel Choir".
She graduated in 1955 from J. R. E. Lee High School in Wildwood, Florida. After high school, she attended cosmetology school in Orlando, Florida, where she found that to be her life's passion. She was a member of the Black Beautician of Lake-Sumter County. In her off-time, she worked for the Lake County School District as a part-time bus driver. She was also the financial secretary of the Bethel Baptist Association
Union.
On December 10, 1959, she married the love of her life, the late Willie Lee "W. L." Fields, Jr. They were married for forty-eight (48) years. During this time, she stood beside him as he accepted his calling as a minister and pastor for thirty-three and a half (33 1/2) years, and she, the "First Lady".
She was preceded in death by her brother: Richard "RJ" Smith, Jr.; sisters: Katherine Smith, Leah Smith-McFadden, and Hattie B. Smith-Lee.
Her memories will be cherished by son, Lorenzo Fields of Cherry Lake, Florida; Grandchildren: Viviene "Trice" Sanders of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ayniya Fields of Wildwood, Florida, Isaac Fields of St. Louis, Missouri, and Israel Fields of Leesburg, Florida; stepson, Dexter Bell; stepdaughter, Brenda Smith; surviving sibling, brother, L. B. Smith of Cherry Lake, Florida; brother-inlaw, Frank Fields (Vivian); just like a daughter: Betty Lee of Cherry Lake, Florida, godchildren: LillieAnn (Daniel Brown) of Cherry Lake, Florida, Atiya "Nikki" Lee of Leesburg, Florida, Brian Jones of Tavares, Florida, Ashley Martin of St. Louis, Missouri and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
