Ruby Greene Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark on Jan. 12, 2026.
Ruby Mae Greene was born on April 28, 1939, in Landover, West Virginia. She was the oldest daughter of Forrest and Mattie Powell. She had 3 siblings, the late Leola Jones and the twins Terry and Jerry Powell. Ms. Ruby attended and graduated from Gary District High School in West Virginia. A few years after graduation Ruby moved to Brooklyn, New York where her love story began.
While she was living in New York and working as a domestic, her aunt Catherine Sims met a gentleman, David William Greene, that she knew would be perfect for Ruby. When they met, it was love at first sight. Ruby says she knew that was her husband when she laid eyes on him. Three months later they were married on January 6, 1962, in Brooklyn, New York. God blessed Ruby and David to celebrate a beautiful life of 64 years together the day before her passing. Together they raised their only beloved son, David W. Greene Jr.
Ruby gave her life to Christ at an early age. She loved the Lord and being part of His church. She and her family worshiped and served at the Refuge Temple COGIC in Englewood, New Jersey and Faith Tabernacle in Plainfield, New Jersey. She was affectionately loved as a church mother and famous for her coleslaw.
Ruby was known for her love for God, her family and those who needed her in the community. She took pride in providing a home for her loving husband and their son DJ. She made sure her son and any other children felt loved and cared for. The neighbors fondly remember the activities, road trips and fun times they had with Ms. Ruby. She would go out of her way to do simple acts of kindness for her family, friends and strangers.
Although Ruby worked many different jobs as a domestic, an assembler, clerk and machine operator, in her latter years, she was homebound. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of cooking for her husband, talking to family on the phone, listening to music and watching her favorite shows Days of Our Lives, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Martin.
After several months battling in the hospital and rehabilitation centers, the Lord called Ruby home on January 7, 2026. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband, David W. Greene Sr. and son, David W. Greene Jr.; her brothers, Terry(Donna) and Jerry(Delcina), her sisters in law, Loretta Greene and Geri Williams; brother in law, Silas Terry; her cousins, Bishop Edgar Robinson, Victoria, Rita, Betty Jo, Weeann, Scott, Susan, Peggy, Andrew, Rachel, Perry, Deborah, Edith, and David; her nephews and nieces, Pia, Vanessa, Michelle, Dax, Crystal, Eddie, Debbie, Lyn, Caryn, Beverly, Daryl, and Irving; close friends, Alice, Rocco, snd Josephine; special sons, Marc, Carlos, AJ, JJ, and Jeff; and a host of other family and friends.
Ruby will be missed dearly!
