Ruby "Dell" Guffey

Ruby “Dell” Guffey, 88 passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.  It was her family’s honor to care for her in her final years.  Ruby has left behind a remarkable legacy that will forever be remembered.   Born on November 10, 1935 in Conover, North Carolina.  Ruby was the daughter of Fred Arthur Dellinger and Berdie Sigmon Dellinger.

 

Ruby was an avid reader and loved learning about our country’s history.  She was a Registered Nurse and retired from Gaston Memorial Hospital after 25 years of service.  She loves her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 50+ years and served on many committees.  She also volunteered for Gastonia Women’s Shelter for many years.  Giving back and serving others was what she loved doing throughout her life. 

 

Ruby was married to James Harvey “Jim” Guffey for 63 beautiful years.  Their journey together was filled with love, respect, and wonderful family fun.   In their later years Ruby and Jim enjoyed traveling with their grandchildren in their motorhome.  Ruby’s proudest and most fun-loving times revolved around her family.   She was a nurturing and dedicated wife and mother.  Ruby's family grew to include her five children:  Kathryn Young (Bruce), Karen Guffey (Paul King), Jimmy Guffey (Rachel), Keith Guffey (Lisa), and Steve Guffey (Moni).  Proud Mamaw to Jon, Lynn, Paige, Preston, Patrick, Blake, Parker, Pierce, Erin, Nicholas, Logan, Lydia and Proud Great Mamaw to Austin, Landon, Blayden, Carter, Charlie, Emerie, Marlowe, Kole, Zeke, Daniel, Mason, Blayne, Collins, Shep, Nolen, Birdie, Palmer and Great-Great Mamaw to Hayden.  Ruby's love knew no bounds, and she poured her heart into creating a warm and nurturing home for her children and grandchildren.  Her selflessness and unwavering support were constants throughout their lives.  Family brought immeasurable joy to her life.  In addition to her immediate family Ruby has 2 brothers, Kenneth & Authur “Ott” Dellinger. 

 

Visitation services will be held from 1:30 until -3 p.m. Saturday, April 6th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 805 S. York Rd Gastonia NC.   Service at 3:00   Friends and loved ones are invited to join in commemoration of Ruby’s remarkable life.  Her spirit will remain alive in our hearts forever.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Gaston Hospice.
