Ruby Hardin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pearson Funeral Home on Jul. 27, 2024.
Ruby Jo Hardin, 89, of Louisville, Kentucky, entered the gates of Heaven, surrounded by family, on July 26.
She was born in Central City, Kentucky, on November 7, 1934 to the late Albert C. and Katherine Williams. She graduated from Louisville Manual High School, attended Spencerian College and took a job at Lincoln Bank and Trust Company where she met her husband, Leonard. The two married in 1956, having just celebrated 68 wonderful years.
Ruby Jo is survived by her husband, Leonard, their four children: Kimberly K. Koltun (Jeff), Kyle W. Hardin (Donna), Kasia L. Hasch (Dan), and Kara E. Lape (Paul); five grandchildren: Brooke Prater (Mike), Jaclyn Rachocki, Mason, Karey, and Micah Lape; five great grandchildren: Sawyer and Lorelei Rachocki, and Harper, Logan, and Addison Prater. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Williams (Carolyn) of Longwood, Fl.
Ruby Jo was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a beautiful, loving personality, and an infectious laugh, always lifting up those around her. She lived her faith every day.
Ruby Jo loved her church, Walnut Street Baptist, where she taught young children in Sunday School for over sixty years. She was active in Kentucky Baptist activities as a helpmate to her husband in his involvement with Baptist Hospital and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Family and church were the cornerstones of her life. She had a loving spirit toward everyone, always looking for the good and never critical.
Ruby Jo was a great companion to her husband, sharing his career in business and social activities in the community and the state. They were members of the Hurstbourne Country Club for over 45 years, enjoying golf and great friendships.
They spent their retirement years in their winter home, Bacopa Bay, in St. Petersburg Beach, Fl. They were members of Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club and St. Petersburg Yacht Club where they entertained old friends and family while making many new friends.
Ruby Jo and Leonard traveled the world, from Australia to Russia, and everywhere in between. They especially enjoyed cruising, at times with the entire family, making for unforgettable memories.
Funeral service will be 11am, Thursday, August 1st at Walnut Street Baptist Church,1143 S 3rd St. Louisville, KY with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
Visitation 4-7pm Wednesday, July 31st at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane and after 10am Thursday at church.

When I think of my Nana, I think of the woman described in Proverbs 31. She was the type of woman that I will always strive to be like. Had great faith, loved her family and friends, served her community, was gracious and caring, and had such a sweet sense of humor. People gravitated towards her and everyone who knew her loved her. She was the definition of a great woman. There is a giant hole left in our family, but the impact she had on us all will stay with us forever. We are comforted knowing she is with Jesus and that we will see her again!
Love you so much Nana.

"An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates."

To Leonard, Kim, Kyle, Kasia, Kara, Brooke, Jackie and all; What a special person Ruby Jo was - her influence is evident in each of you.
We often read about people who "lost their battle" with an illness. But I somehow believe that although Ruby Jo has passed from this life, she won the battle because she refused to let the challenges and discomforts of the recent months to defeat the positive, cheerful spirit for which she was so well known.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Ruby Jo, and we pray that you find peace in this difficult time and forward.
