Ruby Hawkins

ALTON BAY ---- Ruby L. Hawkins, 69, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Ruby was born on May 9, 1955, in Central Falls, RI, the daughter of Wing Foo Chin and Oi You (Moy) Chin. She grew up in Rhode Island before moving to New Hampshire in 1977. There she met the love of her life, Jim, while she was working at her family's restaurant, South Seas, in Seabrook.
She earned her Bachelor's Degree in education from Boston University and taught at Alton Central School in Alton, NH. Ruby started volunteering when Chelsea was in kindergarten and later was hired for a full-time position. She loved being an educator and teaching math to students from kindergarten to middle school with the Title 1 program. She retired in 2021 after over 25 years at ACS.
Ruby fiercely loved her family and black lab, Charlie. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. Some of her fondest memories include family vacations to Sanibel Island where she got to relax on the beach with those that she loved.
Ruby is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Jim Hawkins; daughter Chelsea Hawkins; brother Thomas Chin (Sue); sister-in-law Lily Chin, nieces, Keira Chin, Arianne Buckley (Chad), Natalie Girouard (Scott) and Lauren Malo (Tobie); and nephew Michael Chin (Leigh-Marie). In addition to her parents, Ruby is predeceased by her brother Donald Chin.
Ruby will be remembered for her kind heart, generosity and her devotion to her family. Please take a moment to play a game with your family in honor of Ruby, as this was something she loved to do.
