Ruby Hensley Herron

Ruby Hensley Herron, a beloved figure in her family and community, passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2024 at the age of 70. Born on December 21, 1953, in Jackson County, Ruby devoted many years of her life to serving others as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Skyland Care Center, a role she cherished until her retirement in 1997 due to health challenges.

Ruby was an individual who truly understood the value of love and dedication, particularly to her grandchildren, whom she adored. Her warm and nurturing spirit will be missed deeply by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her devotion to her family, Ruby enjoyed various hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. She found peace in the great outdoors, particularly while fishing and camping at Jack Rabbit Campground and Fontana Lake. Gardening and canning were other passions that allowed her to nurture both plants and her loved ones through the fruits of her labor.

Ruby is survived by her loving husband Billy Herron, as well as her sons Wayne Driver and Darrell Driver, and stepson Chuck Herron. She leaves behind her brother J.D. Hensley and sister Judy Brooks (Bruce), alongside her cherished grandchildren: Dalton, Amelia, Keylee, and Leelynn.  She will also be missed by her special friends Elaine Jones, Sheila and Bill Nations, Dakota Bryant, and Max Cochran.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Birdie Rowland Hensley, as well as her sister Emma Jo Hensley and brother Theodore Hensley, Jr.

A Memorial/Graveside Service for Ruby will be held at 2:00PM, on Saturday December 21, 2024, at Hensley Cemetery, Whittier NC.

Her unwavering love for her family and her gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Ruby Hensley Herron’s life was a testament to the importance of compassion and family, and she will be fondly remembered for the warmth she brought into the lives of many.
