Ruby Miller Hoffman, 95, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Augusta Place in Bismarck, ND.
Ruby was born on January 31, 1930, in Grant County to Elma and David Miller. She attended a country school in her youth. In 1947, she married Duart Hoffman, and together, they had two daughters, Donna Link and Sheila Kraft.
Several years after marrying, Ruby and Duart purchased Ruby’s dad’s farm south of New Leipzig, where they made their home for 37 years. Ruby and Duart worked the farm together. She had her tractor and Duart had his tractor. Ruby drove the New Leipzig school bus for 13 years and several of those passengers still fondly remember her.
Ruby was an active member of the Town and Country Homemakers for 25 years, which later transformed into the Farmerettes. She held various leadership roles, including serving as president and secretary over the years. She also contributed to her community by serving on the Grant County FHA board, reviewing farming applications for neighbors and area farmers.
Ruby enjoyed gardening and canning. She attended the New Leipzig United Church of Christ, where she shared her love for music as a choir member and spending her time as a Sunday School and Summer Bible School teacher. Daily, Ruby listened to music, especially country and polka music.
After moving to Bismarck, Ruby lived there for 27 years. During this time, she continued her involvement with cattle shares, collaborating with dear friends Rod and Millie Skretteberg. Even in later years, Ruby enjoyed running cattle shares and keeping a hand in farming.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, grandchildren; Billijo Link, Michael Kraft (Jessica Kraft), and Lezlie Scott (Parker Scott) and great-grandchildren; Sophia Kraft, Otto Kraft, Lillian Kraft, Ranger Scott, and Rebel Scott and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duart Hoffman; granddaughter, Alyssa Kraft; son-in-law, Edward Kraft, her parents; Elma and David Miller, siblings; Irene Link, Marvin Miller, Vernette Huber, and Harvey Miller and many extended family members.
Ruby liked the song, ‘Wings of a Dove.’ May the dove of peace softly carry her spirit into her next life.
A private burial will take place in Bismarck on Monday, March 10, 2025.
