Ruby Jane King, born October 26, 1927, age 97 years, 6 months, and 7 days of Strunk, Kentucky passed away Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Signature Healthcare Wellness Center of Pine Knot.
She was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Clarence Moore and Lydia (Adkins) Moore. Ruby was affectionately referred to as “Mom”, “Mamaw or Mamaw Ruby”, and “Grandma King”. She was an exceptional person and her love for her family was unmatched. Ruby never missed an opportunity to talk about her blessings. She was dedicated to her faith in Jesus, and a constant when it came to talking about all the Lord had done for her, and in her life. Ruby was a long-time member of East Pine Knot Tabernacle Church of God, taking every opportunity to sing praises to the Lord when she attended. Ruby lived an unwavering life, committed to her faith, and her beloved family who had a deep love and admiration for her. She loved to sing gospel songs, play rummy, collect dolls, and work with her hands in the garden. She always had the coffee on and would prepare the most delicious treats you’ve ever tasted to go with it. She was a wonderful homemaker and a consistent source of comfort and joy to everyone around her. She left a profound legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her cherished husband of 63 years, William David King (Bill); her precious son, Glenn King, and dear granddaughter, Keshia Renee Stephens. Ruby was one of nine children and is also preceded in death by all of her siblings, Floyd, Viola, Mary, Laura Belle, Clarence, Howard, Donald, and Sue.
Surviving family include her 4 children, William “Billy” King (Susie) of Strunk, Arvil King (Donna) of Strunk, Sharon Stephens (Russell), and Daniel "Danny" King (Debbie) of Strunk.
Also surviving are Ruby’s 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many other great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Garcia Moore; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Sue Bottorff; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ruby lived a profound life and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her light is now shining in Heaven.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Malachi Barnett and Bro. Harold Baird officiating. Burial to follow in the T Chitwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday after 2:00 until service time at the funeral home.
