Ruby Hicks "Fay" Knolton

Mrs. Ruby Fay Hicks Knolton, 98, died peacefully with her loving daughter by her side on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at home in Germantown, TN. She was born in Saltillo, MS to Raymond Lester Hicks and Willie Lee McKissick Hicks on June 11, 1925. Mrs. Knolton moved to the Memphis area in the 1940s where she married Malcolm Knolton before giving birth to their only child Patricia. In addition to being a housewife, Mrs. Knolton worked several jobs including operating an elevator at the Union Planters Headquarters in downtown Memphis before eventually co-owning Mid-South Automatic Door with her husband until their retirement.
Mrs. Knolton became a member of Leawood Baptist Church (Macon Campus) in her 20s and she remained an active member until her passing. At Leawood, she faithfully served her Lord Jesus Christ by teaching Sunday School in the Junior Department for many years, being active in her Sunday School Class and serving in various other roles. Mrs. Knolton was always giving to others and was a longtime committed volunteer with her friends in the Baptist Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Mrs. Knolton had countless friends and was a loving neighbor to many throughout her lifetime.
Mrs. Knolton is survived by her daughter, Patricia Knolton May of Memphis; her granddaughter Stephanie Monroe (Justin); her grandson Matthew May (Mary Jane); four great-grandchildren; a loving brother; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Malcolm Devon Knolton; her beloved son-in-law Dillard Thomas May, Jr.; her parents; and seven siblings.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 1 p.m. with the service starting at 2 p.m. with all being held at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN. Interment will follow at the Memorial Gardens.
