Peggy Joyce Hill Handy, 90, passed away Friday, March 1,2024 at Liberty Commons. She was born in Alamance County on August 27, 1933 to the late Ernest Elmo Hill and Ethel Inez Michell Hill. She was the wife of the late Albert Guy “Captain Handy” Handy, Sr. of 66 years who died in 2017.
Peggy Handy was a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, best friend, Nanny, and partner in crime (at times anyway but nothing on record) the list goes on. Among being a family member or a friend she was a nurturer, giver, listener, and countless other wonderful qualities that she had. She was also a bit of a spit fire, sassy, strong willed (polite for stubborn), straight to the point kind of woman, she definitely had things on her mind that everyone in the room would soon hear about. She had a giving heart and if she loved you she would let you know in her own way. When children walked into the room she would light up and we would all see that Peggy smile. She was an independent woman, especially when Albert passed, she wanted only to be at home and take care of her home and her visitors. She might even share some of her sweets if she liked you well enough. Peggy was a blessing to everyone who ever had the pleasure of being around her. She was genuine, and she was someone you wanted in your circle. Most importantly though, she was loved. She was loved by many and adored by some. She will be missed. There will be an empty chair where a great woman once sat during holidays and special occasions. But thank God we have memories to keep her alive and well in our minds and know that through His grace and mercy we shall reunite with her at the end of our journey. We love you Peggy, we will all see you in Heaven.
She is survived by her sons, Albert Guy Handy, Jr. and wife, Brenda, Jesse Handy and Steve Handy and wife, Beverly; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Chrisman and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cynthia Hall and sisters, Doris Shultz, Bonnie Rivers, Melba Payne and a brother, Dobie Hill.
The funeral service will be held at Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 3:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Steve McGowan with the burial to follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45pm prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of son, Albert Guy Handy, Jr.
