Ruby Yvonne Mathis was born on January 2, 1947 in Baltimore City, Maryland, daughter of the
late Charlotte Saunders Wise and Samuel Wise.
At a young age, Ruby and her family moved to
Roselle, New Jersey where she was educated in
the Roselle Public School System. She attended Lincoln School (now known as Dr. Charles C.
Polk Elementary School) and graduated from Abraham Clark High School. She was part of a
high school singing group; she enjoyed singing at local venues. After graduating high school,
Ruby began working for RCA.

Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. This union was blessed with two sons, Antoine

kids, Ruby was the type of mother that demanded respect, but had the biggest sense of humor
that resonated with her kids. She would take Eric and his friends to concerts and other events.
She was a bonus Mom to both of her kids' friends.
Ruby left RCA while pregnant with her second son Eric and proudly became a stay-at-home
mother. In 1981, she returned to the workforce joining City Federal Bank located in the Roselle
Shopping Center. She retired in 2013 from the Wells Fargo Bank branch located on St. Georges
Avenue in Linden, New Jersey.
Ruby started studying with Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1970s' where she soon thereafter
started attending services at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Roselle; and later in
Union, New Jersey. For many years, Ruby selflessly dedicated her time to serving food at
Insecure Community with her niece Zakiyya. She helped prepare countless lunches for those in
need with a warm smile.
