Mrs. Ruby Copeland Matthews

The lovely Mrs. Ruby Mae Copeland Matthews was born on May 12, 1929, in Griffin, Georgia. She peacefully departed to her place of eternal rest on december 23, 2025, at the age of 96. She was the oldest daugter of Mr. Otis Copeland, Sr., and his beautiful wife, Mrs. Bessie Copeland. Mrs. Ruby Matthews attended Fairmont High School in Griffin, Georgia, and was a member and one of the founders of Heavenly Way Baptist Church, located in Griffin, Georgia. In her earlier years, she worked as a housekeeperand cook in the Little White House located in Warm Springs, Georgia, during the term of the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Mrs. Ruby Matthews was prceded in death by her respectable husband, Mr. Phillip Matthews, to whom she was married for over 50 years; and by twoi of her sons, Mr. Melvin Copeland, and Keith Calvin Matthews; her brother, Otis Copeland, Jr., (Mary Helen) her sister, Heneritta Copeland Passmore, and granddaughter, Danielle White. She is survived by her sister Thelma Brownlee, three of her five children, Mrs. Samantha Smith (William), Mrs. Harriet Turner (Darrell), and Mr. Phillip Jerome Matthews. She was blessed with a wealth of amazing grandchildren, Tony Copeland (Mary), Tarrance Patterson, Alicia Cantrell (Steven), Santhia McGlothian (Lenny), Salvia Fox (Jibri), Niccorreau Beck, Chasity Matthews, Phillip Mattrhews, Jr., Amosina Matthews, Alonzo Copeland, Carlass Copeland, Faithia Copeland, and a host of greatgrandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, as well as a community of many loving extended family members and friends.
