Ruby Helen Burfield Clevenger Mitchell

Ruby Helen Burfield Clevenger Mitchell slipped away quietly early in the morning on Sunday March 29, 2026. She was 91 years old.

Ruby was born by the river in Dyer County Tennessee on June 16, 1934, the only child of parents James and Dorothy Burfield. She was an incredibly talented storyteller and artist and she loved to paint barns and landscapes. She loved her family wholeheartedly and treasured the time she spent with them. Ruby devoted many years to working as a caregiver. She was kind and compassionate and the way she cared for people was nothing short of a gift. Ruby gave the best hugs, kept the coziest home, told the best stories and had the most wonderful laugh. She will be missed tremendously.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children and husband of 40 years, Walter Clevenger; her second husband Bob Mitchell; the love of her life, Ed; and her oldest son Phillip Clevenger.

She leaves her 3 surviving children: April Boyer and husband Jeff of Ashland Ohio; Yvonne Hutcherson and husband Bruce, of Newbern Tennessee; and Tim Clevenger and wife Kine of Norway.

Ruby leaves 6 grandchildren: Meridith Teehan and Eric Boyer, both of Ashland Ohio; Jace Culver of Newbern Tennessee; Ashley Melton and husband Jeff of Dyersburg Tennessee; Harrison Clevenger of Dyersburg Tennessee; and Spencer Clevenger of Norway.

She was the proud great grandmother to 9 great grandchildren: Jade Teehan, Matthew Teehan and wife Sabrina, all of Ohio; Brandon Jones, Collin Melton, Evan Melton, and Wyatt Clevenger, all of Dyersburg; and Clara and Cedric Clevenger of Norway.

To know her was to love her. She will be remembered for her kind heart and sweet spirit.
