George J. Gerst Jr.

George J. Gerst, Jr passed away March 11, 2022, at Advent Health, Eustis, Florida. He was born April 9, 1943, in Wilmar, California, the son of George and Pauline (Howe) Gerst. George graduated from Wapello High School, Wapello, Iowa with the class of 1961. George's last employment was at advent health for 10 years before he retired. George enlisted and served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. George married Fran Machamer June 1, 1991, in Apopka, Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 3 sisters and 1 daughter. Surviving in addition to his wife, Fran, are sons Brian Gerst and Mike (Carol) Gerst, daughters Renee' (Dale) Helmick, Shelley Ferrall and Tracey Gerst, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, siblings, Vonnie (Fred) Carlson, Gary (Janet) Gerst, Cathy Eaton and Beth (Mike) Prior and many other family members.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on March 26,2022 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Hamlin & Hilbish Eustis, Florida, the family requests memorials be made to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. (can be made online).
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 9,2022 from 1:00-5:00 PM at the American Legion in Columbus Junction, Iowa.
