Ms. Ruby Jean Owens

Isiah 40:29-31 (NIV): "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak"

Mrs. Ruby Jean Pitts-Owens, 73, of Americus, Georgia, entered into the presence of the Lord on April 1, 2026, at her residence.

Last rites will be held at 12:00 pm (Noon) on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at The Rostrum of the Andersonville National Historic Site; located at 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, GA 31711, with the Reverend Mireo Harris of Green Grove Baptist Church, officiating. Rangers affiliated with the cemetery will be available at the gate to escort the family and those attending to the correct area of the service. Arrangements are entrusted by Meadows Funeral Home, 315 S. Madison Street, Albany, GA 31701. Family and Friends will line up at 10:30 am for the procession at 106 Belinda Circle in Americus, Georgia, on the day of the funeral.

Ruby was born in Americus, Georgia to the late Mrs. Ruby Lee Mansfield-Pitts and the late Mr. Homer Lee Pitts on October 25, 1952. Among the many milestones of her well-lived life, she matriculated throughout the schools of Sumter County, Georgia and graduated from South Georgia Technical College. She was also a veteran of the United States Army and worked in the Chaplain's Office. Ruby was involved in church organizations and counseled friends and family in need of support. She served her country with honor and distinction. Ruby also gained her strength to never give up through faith, praying and believing in God's word.

In addition to her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by daughter, LaShana Renee Pitts; Grandfather - Harrison Mansfield; Aunt - Lillian Mansfield; Uncles - David Lee and Edward Mansfield; Nephew - Robert Lee Henderson Jr.; and sister, Mary Ann Pitts-Holmes.

Ruby is survived by: Children: Lashandra Pitts and Wayne Boris Courtney Owens; Aunt - Thelma Mansfield-Arnold; Uncle - Curtis Mansfield; Sisters: Teresa Mansfield and Sandra Faye Henderson; Niece, Ingrid Ann Felice Jones. Extended Family: Patricia Snelling, Demetree Merritt, Johnny Merritt, Jaylen Merritt, Cortavious Merritt, Travis Snelling, Trinity Snelling, Jane Bateman, Nita Ingram, Tarsha Ingram-Dean, Satonya Wiggins-Hall, Myrna C. Wilbon and Jerome Stevens.

The Family will receive friends and family to share memories of Ruby on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 3 PM - 7 PM, at the home of her sister, Teresa Mansfield, at 106 Belinda Circle, Americus, GA 31709.
