Ruby Pearl Nee Blahut passed away at home March 6, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born Ruby Pearl Barnes in Cumberland, MD, October 8, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Top Ellis Barnes and Pearl Beatrice Barnes.
Ruby was preceded in death by her first husband, of 49 years, Bernard "Bing" Nee. She is survived by her husband Regis Blahut.
Ruby began her married life as a stay-at-home mom, raising her four children. As the kids grew, she started a beauty salon in the basement of her home while still caring for the kids. At the age of 40 she entered college and graduated with a nursing degree from Allegany Community College. Ruby began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital. Later she was asked to become one of the first nurses to join Sacred Hearts home health care services. She logged tens of thousands of miles circling the region caring for patients at their homes. Toward the end of her career, she provided hospice care in addition to seeing home care patients. After her retirement, she volunteered at Doey's House in Hagerstown.
Ruby grew up in a one-bedroom house with her parents and five siblings. She often talked about her simple upbringing, milking their own goat and raising chickens. She rode the Salvation Army bus into Cumberland where she learned about Jesus. Until her death she proudly read from the bible given to her by the Salvation Army when she was a child. She was a lifetime member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and lead Christmas programs when her children were young. After moving to Hagerstown, she became a member of the St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Hagerstown. She was a Past President of the Cresaptown Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Pythian Sisters and Red Hat society. She is also a member of the Potomac Fish and Game Club Ladies Auxiliary and The Degree of Pocahontas Women's Auxiliary of The Improved Order of Red Men.
Ruby loved to travel and went to many places like Germany and Hawaii. She traveled all over the United States and enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, trips to Mexico and St. Martin and many other places.
Ruby is survived by her children Ted (Mary Ann) Nee, Cathy (Bryan) Miles and Brad (Mary) Nee; daughter in law Francine Nee; stepchildren Beth, Regis and Steve. Grandchildren Jason, Vincent, Kierra, Brittney, Lauren, Jarrod, Scotty, Martin, Randy, Alex and Mark. Step grandchildren Brendan, Kevin, Nicole, Regis, Sean, Kelly. Great grandchildren Jason Jr., Hailee, Sean, Aiden, Addison, James, Alfred, Gavin, Harper, Landon, McKenna, Aubrey, Easton, Ayden and Parker. She is also survived by her special niece, Cyndi Snyder, who was like a daughter to her.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings James, Top, Tommy, Donald and Norma and her son Scott.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M., with Reverend Harold McClay, Jr. officiating.
