It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruby Hamlin Porter, 84. Ruby passed away on March 17th. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will forever be treasured by those who knew her.
Services to celebrate Ruby's life will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church in Columbus on Friday March 22nd. A visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed by a Funeral Service from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Ruby was born in Macon, Georgia, on April 12,1939, to parents Leonard Floyd Hamlin and Laura Stokes Hamlin. Ruby's love for teaching led her to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Ministry, shaping her into the compassionate educator she was known to be. She was a teacher at Edgewood Christian School for many years and worked at Mildred Terry Library. Ruby was a woman of simple pleasures. She cherished going on her frequent coffee dates with Lynn and Trish. Her passion was working in her yard (no matter the heat) and growing beautiful flowers and plants.
Ruby's memory will be cherished by her surviving family: son Don Porter and his wife Deborah, daughter Lynn Atkinson and her husband Jeff, son Dave Porter, daughter Trish Tomlinson and her husband Nelson. She also leaves behind grandchildren Lindsey Porter (Jordan), Tayler Porter, Katlyn Broach, Brittany Brown (Troy), Lauren Shelley (Brooks), Bryson Atkinson, Parker Atkinson, Gabby Porter, Gage Porter, Jaxon Porter, Ashtin Burnell (Justus), Carson Tomlinson; 9 great-grandchildren; and special cousins Reba Hamrick and Evelyn Newberry.
In addition to her parents, Ruby is now reunited with her son Chuck Porter and brother William Hamlin. She was a Godly woman and was known to be a prayer warrior for anyone in need. Her impact as a loving mother, devoted teacher, and compassionate Christian lady will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives she touched.
As we mourn the loss of this remarkable lady, let us find solace in the beautiful memories she left behind and the lives that she impacted along the way. Ruby's light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever.
Flowers are welcome, or donations can be made to Columbus Hospice in honor of Ruby.
