LaVern "Vern" Williford

LaVern "Vern" Williford, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 at his home. He was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on July 20, 1934; a son to the late John and Della Williford. On April 9, 1965, he was united in marriage to Darlene June Myers in Monroe, Michigan. She preceded him in death.
Growing up in the hills of Kentucky, Vern began working at a young age. He attended Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri, and dedicated his life to ministry. He led and pastored Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jefferson City from 1977 until his retirement in 2022. From sun up to sun down, his days consisted of pastoring and living a Christ-led life. Vern also enjoyed music and taking regular trips to Branson where he enjoyed sitting on the lake and watching boats come and go. He will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to know and love him.
Vern is survived by his sons, Dan (Debra) Williford and Dave (Becky) Williford; sister, Joyce Grogan; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Della; wife of nearly 55 years, Darlene; 3 daughters, Cheryl Seipel, Sue O'Day, and Kathy Metzler; and several brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Vern will be laid to rest at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
