Ruby Nellie Reaves, a spirited and loving matriarch, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at the age of 102 in Campbell, Missouri. Born on March 25, 1922, in Rector, Arkansas, to Elmer and Colosse (Oliver) Manning, Ruby's life was a testament to her courageous and feisty spirit.
Ruby was the beloved wife of the late Carl Alton Reaves, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and a beautiful family. Together, they raised their children James and Karen Reaves of Piggott, Linda Speer of Rector, and Janet and Marvin Kilbreath of McDougal with love and dedication. Ruby's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren Terry Reaves of Piggott, Chad Reaves of Pollard, Tabitha Beach of Nashville, Jason Speer of Paragould, Amy Speer of Rector, and Heather Tullos of Piggott. She was also the proud great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her zest for life.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Alton, her son-in-law Darrell Speer, and her siblings Floyd Manning, Cloyce Manning, Argie Beckley, Lola Manning, and Dorothy Burns. Each held a special place in her heart and contributed to the rich tapestry of her life's story.
Ruby's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family and her home. A homemaker par excellence, she took immense pride in maintaining a warm and welcoming household. Her love for working outside was evident in her beautifully tended garden, a colorful display of her passion for growing flowers. Ruby's green thumb brought joy not only to her family but to all who had the pleasure of witnessing her garden's splendor.
Her adventurous spirit shone brightly when, at the age of 93, Ruby bought a new car, and even more impressively, passed her driver's test at 96, a feat that spoke volumes about her independence and determination. Ruby's interests extended beyond her home and garden. She was an avid Bingo player, a hobby that brought her much joy and allowed her to engage with her community in a fun and lively manner. Her presence at the Bingo halls will be deeply missed by her friends and fellow players.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Ruby's story does not end with her passing but continues in the legacy she leaves behind-a legacy of love, strength, and the beauty of a life well-lived. As we honor her memory, we hold close the lessons she taught us through her example: to live with courage, to love without reservation, and to face each day with a feisty and joyful heart.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Irby-Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector beginning at 12. The service starts at 1:00 with Jack Cole officiating. Interment will be at the Woodland Heights Cemetery.
