Ruby A. Sandstrom

Ruby A. Sandstrom, 92, of Granby, Connecticut, widow of Donald Sandstrom, died Friday, February 23, 2018 after a long illness at Meadowbrook of Granby. Born in Hartford, the daughter of Hjalmar and Astrid (Persson) Anderson, she graduated from Hall High School in West Hartford, Class of 1943. She was an excellent student and very active in her school serving as her class secretary and treasurer. Ruby worked as a secretary with the Hartford Insurance Group and with Jacobs Manufacturing in Bloomfield. Ruby and Donald had been members of the Pilgrim Covenant Church in Granby, and she was a past member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford. She leaves her brother Albert Carlson of Virginia, her nephews, her nieces, and Donald's daughters Karen Ellis of Delaware, and Deborah Jones and Virginia Kern of Maine. Besides her husband Donald who died in 2005, she was predeceased by her sister Vera Biorklund in 2017 and her niece Laura Biorklund in 2012. There are no calling hours and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be private at the Granby Cemetery where Donald is buried. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
