Ruby F. "Basham" Schmidt

Ruby Fransis Basham Schmidt a devoted servant of God born November 9, 1933 and entered eternal rest peacefully surrounded by her family on February 12, 2026.

Born in Lodiburg, KY and later in life moved to Louisville, KY and became a member of Ormsby Heights Baptist Church, Past Matron Middletown Chapter 319, Past Grand Worker of Grand Chapter O.E.S. Kentucky Colonel and retired from White Castle.

Preceded in death by her husband, Walter George Schmidt JR. Her father and mother Junious and Georgia Basham, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, Son-in-Law Kenny Shope and Daughter-in-Law Emily Eddings-Thomas.

Survived by her daughter Nancy Shope, son Mark Thomas, 4 grandchildren Antoine (Rebecca), Anthony (Kelly), Angel (Jamie) and Anita (Steve), 8 great-grandchildren Sierra, Antoine JR, Jevon, Alex, Mackenzie, Mady, Steve and Tony.

Loved her family, God and her church. Enjoyed being around and helping others, spending time with her family and loved cheering on the Louisville Cards.

Donations to Ormsby Heights Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.

Visition, Friday February 20, 2026 3pm-8pm, at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., Louisville, Kentucky 40216. The funeral will be Saturday February 21, 2026 12pm, with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
