Ruby Laura "Hawkins" Sullivan

Ruby Laura (Hawkins) Sullivan, 64, of Girard, died on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at her residence.

Laura was born May 29, 1961 in Lewiston, Maine, a daughter of Donald and Ruby (Cram) Hawkins. When she was young the family moved to Girard where she grew up and attended schools.

She married Richard W. Kmiec on March 31, 1979 in Hepler. They had 3 children together and later divorced.

Laura married William P. Sullivan on March 18, 2001 in Girard. They resided in the greater Kansas City area until retiring to Girard in 2014 to spend time with family and grandchildren. William preceded her in death on August 3, 2020.

Laura was a homemaker, and she enjoyed her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, reading, watching old television shows, and her pets.

She was a member of the George C. Brown Post No, 26, American Legion Auxiliary of Girard.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Kmiec Jagels of Girard; her sons, Christopher Kmiec, and his wife, Ashley, of Lusby, Maryland and Donald Kmiec of Girard; her grandchildren Gage, Spencer, Caroline, Alex, Lucas, Launa, Blake, and Scarlett; her brother, Howard Hawkins, and his wife, Donna, of Branson; her sisters, Cheryl McGown, and her husband, Gary, of Branson and Maggie Lloyd, and her husband, Brian, of Columbus.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Donna Jo Mitchell, on May 29, 2012.

Memorials are suggested to the Greater Kansas City Friends of Fisher House which serves families of veterans eligible to receive healthcare from the Kansas City VA
