Ruby Thompson Obituary
Ruby Irene Thompson 81, formally of Canadian was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus, her husband Leo and her daughter Lillian at the gates of heaven September 5, 2025.
Visitation with Ruby's family will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 10:00am at The Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Canadian. A graveside service will follow at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
Ruby was born March 15, 1944, in Gentry, Arkansas to Glen and Sarah Irene Gibson.
Ruby’s life was marked by creativity and service. She poured her heart into handcrafting wedding dresses, Halloween costumes, school projects, sewing and preparing meals for those she loved. In quieter moments, she found joy in studying her bible, reading a cherished romance novel, or sharing laughter over a game a Mahjong. Her life was a testimony of love, service, and devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her warm smile, strong faith, and the countless ways she poured herself into those she cherished most. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Sarah Irene; her beloved husband, Leo Thompson; her daughter, Lillian Russell; and siblings Elbert Gibson, Leon Gibson, and Shirley Hurd.
She is survived by her son Glenn Thompson and his girlfriend Tina Ray of Amarillo; daughter Tonja Weatherholt and husband Bill of Amarillo; daughter Melissa Hastings and husband Ray of Yantis and Son-in-Law Bill Russell of Canadian. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and a multitude of great and great-great grandchildren who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Those who wish to honor Ruby with a gift may do so with flowers, or, if preferred, with a donation in her memory to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation.
