Mrrs. Ruby L. Vance was born in
Mullins, South Carolina on June 5, 1941, to the late Roxie Godbolt and Johnny Paul. She departed this earthly life on Monday, April 7, 2026, at MUSC in
Florence, SC. She was married to the late John A. Vance Sr., to this union, five children were born. She will be sadly missed by family, community, and friends.
Ruby joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age. She attended church faithfully; she was on the Usher's Board and served as a Nurse. She served faithfully until her health began to decline. She dedicated many years to the workforce, including over 20 years at SoPakCo Foods, Russell Stover, and AVM. She was well known and admired by all who had the pleasure of tasting her food. She loved to cook and feed everybody in the community; once you tasted her food, you craved it all the time!
Throughout her life, Ruby was deeply committed to serving others and strengthening the community around her. She devoted countless hours to organizing and supporting charitable efforts, including fundraising initiatives that provided vital assistance to families in need. Whether through community events, outreach programs, or quiet acts of generosity, she believed in lifting others up and making a meaningful difference. Her compassion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to helping those less fortunate leave a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She was proceeded in death by her son, John A. Vance Jr., (Poke); two brothers, Henry Godbolt and Leroy Davis ; four sisters, Kay Francis Godbolt, Alice Godbolt, Hattie Moore, and Doris Moore.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory four children, Annie Fordham, Mary Ann Page, Cynthia Felder, and Jerome Vance, all of
Mullins, SC; two God daughters, Shirly Rawlins of Kingston, NY and Felicia Henburg from Lakeview, SC; one Special Nephew, Ronnie (Tonya) Godbolt of Summerville, SC; two God sons, Cedric (Ashley) Smith of Tampa, FL, and MacArthur Emanual of Jacksonville, FL; 13 grands: Dionne Vance, Nathan Vance, Jessica Page, Quincy Page, Latis Vance, Rajeem Vance, Raheem Felder, Janautica Watts, Kashmere Vance, Jerome Vance Jr., Ja'ron Vance, Ty'Mia Hamilton, and Johniya Townsend; 13 great grands; 1 great-great grand; 3 special friends, Bonnie Faye Platt Scott of Mullins, Sylvia Godbolt of Marion, SC, and Cheryl Duncan of Green Sea Floyd, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
