Ruby T. "Little Ruby" Westcott was born on July 27, 1935, to the late Arthur and Martha Tiggett. She peacefully transitioned from this life on April 7, 2026, at the age of 90. Ruby received her education in the Trenton and Hamilton public school systems and later pursued studies at Mercer County Community College.
Ruby was a true powerhouse, an entrepreneur, a woman of deep faith, and a natural connector who brought people together wherever she went. She left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Ruby accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church at age 11 under the leadership of Reverend E.A. Davis. Her faith remained the foundation of her life. She continued to worship under the late Reverend Willie Saunders and faithfully served in many capacities, including church secretary, treasurer, Senior Usher Ministry, Sunday School, Helping Hands, Sick and Shut-In Ministry, youth group leadership, and Silver Hair Booklet Chairperson for 17 years. She later became a member of Kingdom Church after it was founded by Pastor Dharius Daniels. She lived by the words, "Keep God first, and if you start out right, you will end up right."
Ruby was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, and friend whose life was centered on faith, family, and service. She was the proud mother of Harold A. Jones, Carl E. Jones, and Chenise Jones. Later in life, Ruby found lasting love and companionship with John D. Westcott Sr., with whom she shared 28 blessed years of marriage until his passing. Ruby loved her grandchildren deeply and embraced them as her own children. They were among her greatest joys, and she never missed an opportunity to sing their praises.
Ruby was also deeply committed to service beyond her family. In 1981, she joined the Order of the Eastern Star, Lady Martha Roberts Chapter No. 222, under Worthy Matron Gertrude A. Rock. In 1991, she became a member of Lady Anguilla Chapter No. 103 under Worthy Matron Joyce Clemens, where she faithfully served in leadership roles, including secretary, treasurer, and assistant worthy matron.
Her vibrant spirit showed in all she loved. Ruby enjoyed modeling, bowling, roller skating, dancing, and music. She was passionate about civic engagement, actively campaigning and working at the polls at the local, state, and national levels. A dedicated member of the NAACP, she stayed informed about current events, often watching CNN and listening to WiMG 1300. She worked for Westinghouse Corporation for 21 years and later for Rick's Bus Company, serving the Hamilton Township Board of Education.
Ruby's relationships were rooted in love, loyalty, and faith. She shared a special bond with her dear friend and sister in Christ, Sister Mariam Stewart, and cherished friendships with neighbors Violet Williams and Elizabeth Grant. Affectionately known as Aunt Ruby or Mama
Ruby, she was a trusted mentor to many children in her community. Her home was a haven, always open and welcoming. She offered guidance with both structure and love, and her nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John D. Westcott Sr.; her beloved daughter, Chenise Jones; her siblings (Arthur Tiggett, Bertha Williams, Thomas Tiggett, and Billy Tiggett); and many loved ones who are welcoming her home.
She leaves behind her loving sons, Harold A. Jones (Vickie) and Carl E. Jones; her cherished grandchildren, Andre, Teheran, Tashieka, Summer, Jamar, Dionne, Jameel, Nevaeh, Tre, Machiveli, and Saalam; her great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, dear friends, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
A woman of unwavering faith, Ruby lived her life as an example of God's word in action. She was a blessing to her church family, her community, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love, wisdom, strength, and radiant spirit will be treasured forever.
A Graveside service will be held at 3pm Friday, April 24, 2026 at Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Ave.,
Hamilton, NJ 08619.
