She was born on January 16, 1934, in Luray, VA, the daughter of Clarence R. Shelburne and Opie Duncan Shelburne. She attended the Congregation of Christ in Harrisonburg, VA. She worked for many years for General Electric in production.
Ruby married John H. Williams, Sr. on December 12, 1955; he preceded her in death June 19, 2000.
She is survived by a son Chuck Williams (Cindy) of Bridgewater, VA, a brother, Jim Shelburne (Jeanne) of Richmond, VA; and ten grandchildren: Katie Zuza, Joseph Zuza (Erin), Edward Zuza (Irina), Brandon Williams (Brittany), Ryan Williams (Abby), Matthew Jayne, Daniel Virts, Thomas Virts, Johnny Virts, and Cathy Virts; and sixteen great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law who were like sisters: Martha Layden and Lilyan Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband John, she is preceded in death by three children, Lillian Zuza, John H. Williams Jr, and Rena Virts; three siblings: Eunice Hovermale, Mary Endresano, and Clarence Shelburne; and one granddaughter, Kaylin Virts.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester from 12:00 pm – 1:00 p.m.
The funeral will follow at Jones Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with Evangelists Charles Doughty and Ryan Williams officiating. The burial will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Ruby's honor may be made to the Congregation of Christ, 3231 Peoples Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
