Rudy Wilfred Atencio, 75, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, under the loving care of Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care, Colorado Springs, Co.
Rudy was born on March 5, 1950 to Felipe and Bertha C. (Valdez) Atencio in a small community known as Los Fuertes in San Luis, CO and later moved with his family to Colorado Springs.
He was a resident of Colorado Springs and graduated from Palmer High School. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. Rudy was employed by King Soopers Grocery for 38 years as a grocery clerk until his retirement in 2001. He was also employed by Frontier Airlines in Colorado Springs. He was an avid Denver Broncos Football fan; it was the last game he watched from his hospital room.
During the time he was employed by King Soopers, he met his future wife Dona M. Riese-Wulf and they were married on November 24, 1996 in Colorado Springs.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife Dona M. Atencio; son, David (Stacey) Riese; grandchildren, Willie (Esme), Justin and Landon Riese; brother, Joseph P. Atencio; sisters, Orlinda A. Pieratt, Cordilla B. (Ted) Roybal and Patricia M. (Jake) Gonzales; uncle, Rudy Valdez; sisters-in-law, Betty J. Atencio, Yogi (Mary) Wulf, and Ellen Wasser. Rudy has numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and cousins (too many to mention) but was deeply loved by each one. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Felipe and Bertha C. Atencio, his beloved brother Richard E. Atencio, sisters Anna E. Voigt and Louise J. Lopez.
The family of the late Rudy W. Atencio wishes to acknowledge the words of comfort, food, prayers, flowers and numerous expressions of love and sympathy extended during the passing of our loved one. We extend our heartfelt thanks and our prayer is that God bless everyone.
