Rufus Hope Obituary
June 23, 1940 - October 5, 2025
Rufus Melton Hope, Jr. of Granite Falls, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 5, 2025, at his home after a year of declining health.
He was the son of Rufus Melton Hope, Sr., and Verla Hope Anderson, born in Caldwell County on June 23, 1940. Melton graduated from Granite Falls High School, where he earned the nickname "Rock", and he later attended Wingate University. Melton worked as Human Resources Manager at Regal Manufacturing for 15 years. He was an avid golfer who was never happier than when he had a golf club in his hand. Melton was also an amateur photographer, always taking pictures at family gatherings and outings. He was very involved in the Granite Falls Lions Club for over 20 years and received several awards for his dedication and achievements. Melton was also a member of the Hickory and Lincolnton Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. He also loved to travel and had been all around the country with his first wife, Alice, and friends. Melton attended First Baptist Church of Granite Falls and loved the Lord Jesus Christ.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Johnson Hope; his stepfather, Robert Anderson; his sister, Peggy Hope Wood; and his nephews, Jay and Timothy Wood.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura Hope Keller (Ben); grandson, Zachariah Keller; his second wife, Glenda Hope; stepdaughter, Tresa Allison-Kirby; nieces, Allison Phillips and Casey Hufflings.
A receiving of friends will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls.
A Graveside Service will follow at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls with Rev. Jay Worsley officiating, and Masonic Rites by the Hickory Masonic Lodge #343.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 12 Crestview St., Granite Falls, NC 28630.
