Rufus H. Simmons III

Rufus H Simmons III, 50, was born March 18, 1973, in Toledo, Ohio to Estelle (Steve) Watson-Michalak and
Rufus (Mary) H. Simmons Jr
Rufus attended Toledo Public Schools Old West End Jr High School and graduated from Jesup
W. Scott High School in 1992 where he played football and ran track, Once a Bull Dog always a
Bull Dog!
Rufus met the love of his life Aundrea Hassell in 2010 where they began a quick courtship and
were married March 8, 2011. They were happily married for 12 years. She remained by his side
until his passing.
Rufus was a highly respected and loved Feeder Driver (triple endorsement) for United Parcel
Service (UPS) for several years. He was a great driver and Union Steward, always concerned
about the welfare of his fellow drivers.
He was also an avid sports fan and LOVED the Las Vegas Raiders Football Team! In addition to
following sports as a super fan, Rufus was very actively involved with his youngest daughter's
team as an Assistant Coach of the Toledo Elite Track and Field Club. But his biggest joy and
passion were his Maumee Valley children! He coached the 5th and 6th grade boys basketball
team, who won the TAAC Youth League Championship this past season, as well as coaching
the Middle School Track and Field Team. Rufus was well respected by parents and loved by the
kids he mentored and coached. Coach Rufus will truly be missed.
Rufus was called home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2023, at 9:03 P.M. at The University of
Toledo Medical Center. Rufus was preceded in death by Parents Estelle Michalak and Rufus H
Simmons Jr. as well as his brother Nelson Yarbro and niece Takia Watson -McGlown.
Rufus leaves to forever cherish his memory, loving and devoted wife Aundrea Simmons.
