Rufus Smith

Rufus Smith, age 76, of Buford, GA passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Linda Murray of Buford; daughters, Andrea McCormick, Bunita Smith; son, Tavares Mackey; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Wilhemeina Smith; brothers, Marcus (Kim) Smith, Ronnie Smith, Roderick (Mary Helen) Smith, Calvin (Veronica) Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Maebelle Murray; sister-in-law, Deborah Murray; brother-in-law, Dennis (Linda) Murray; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Smith was born on September 27, 1948 in Gainesville, GA. He was a 1966 graduate of E. E. Butler High School. Mr. Smith was a retired driver from Tapp Lumber Company with fifteen years of service. He was a deacon and a member of the Union Baptist Church in Buford. Mr. Smith was a member of the Male Chorus and a member of the Union Baptist Church Choir. He loved music and singing. He also loved the Philadelphia Eagles Football team and was an avid Buford Wolves fan. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Union Baptist Church with Dextory Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Buford, GA. Mr. Smith will Lie-in-State at the church on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
