Russell Dean Chaney, of Utopia Texas , passed away on October 26, 2025 peacefully at his residence at the age of 64. He was born on September 23, 1961 in Waco, Texas to Charles Linson Chaney and Naoma Sue Wolff.
He married his high school sweetheart Uphie Virginia Wern on September 26, 1980 in Texas City, Texas. They were married for 46 years.
He graduated from San Antonio College in 1988 as a Certified Peace Officer. For 32 years he was a Police Officer in Comal County and an entrepenuer, Owning several software companies.
Russell is survived by his wife, Uphie Virginia Chaney of Utopia, Texas; Sons-Calvin Russell Chaney and wife Carroll of New Braunfels Texas; Christopher Kyle Chaney of Utopia Texas and Matthew Kieth Chaney of Utopia, Texas; sister Ranee Smith of New Braunfels, Texas. His grandchildren Caeley Danielle Flowers and husband Caleb of New Braunfels, Texas, Camryn Renee Chaney of New Braunfels, Texas, Landyn Michael Chaney of Utopia, Texas and Virginia Marie Chaney of Utopia, Texas. numerous nieces and nephews.
Russell is preceded in death by his grandmothers and grandfathers :Aretha and Huey Wolff; Lena Bell Chaney and Charles Henderson Chaney; his Mother and Father-Naoma Sue Chaney and Charles Linson Chaney; his oldest sister-Carol Yvonne Smith; his brothers-Charles Linson Chaney and Michael Keith Chaney.
Visitation will begin on November 1, 2025 at 1 pm, followed by a church service at 2 pm at Church of Christ, Utopia Texas. Burial will follow at Waresville Cemetery, Utopia Texas at 3pm with a short graveside service. Reception following the graveside service at Utopia Church of Christ, Utopia, Texas.
Pallbearers will be: Shane Smith; Cody Smith; Caleb Smith; Caleb Flowers; Ryan Reavis; Tommy Reavis; Brad Hayes; Matt Beatty and Aaron Shumaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Landyn Michael Chaney & Aaron Shumaker
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Utopia Volunteer Fire or Utopia EMS
