Russell F. Harris, 86, longtime Auburn resident, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Son of the late Ray and Irene Harris of Auburn, Russell is remembered by his sister Judy, his nieces Amy (RJ) and Cheryl (Aaron), his great-nieces, Lindsay and Kayla, and his great-nephews, Ryan and Cameron.
Russell lived a life of service to his family, his church, his students, and his community. Alongside his late father, he served as the Financial Secretary at Bethel Lutheran Church for 52 years.
Math students at Algonquin Regional High School from 1963 to 1999 will remember Mr. Harris as a popular teacher of an often-challenging subject. Russell also served in various positions with the Worcester County Math League for 20 years.
Russell graduated from Auburn High School in 1957. He went on to study at Tufts University, was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1961. He continued his studies at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he graduated with a Master of Science degree in Mathematics.
He enjoyed singing in community and church choirs and was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church. An avid train enthusiast, he travelled extensively through the US and Canada pursuing his hobby and visiting with family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 90 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Auburn, MA 01501.
Relatives, friends, and parishioners are invited to gather for Russell's Celebration of Life, which will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Auburn. Burial will be held at 10:00 AM that morning in Section 90 of Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster St., Worcester, all are welcomed to attend. The Britton-Wallace Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
