Russell Webster Lybecker

Russell Webster Lybecker (January 1940 – November 2025) of Kailua Kona HI and Burlington WA passed away November 28, 2025, in Hawaii. Russ was born in Walla Walla WA, son of Chester and Mary Lybecker; graduated from Walla Walla High School and Washington State University. Russ started his Washington State Patrol career in August 1965, progressing to Sergeant, then Lieutenant, retiring in June 1996 after 30 years of dedicated service. During his career he trained many cadets at the WSP Academy and commanded troopers in several posts in Western Washington. Enjoying his almost 30 years of retirement, he traveled, was the rock of his family, used his expertise to build and repair, and reached out his hand to many in need.

Russ is survived by his wife Wendy Galasso, brother Don Lybecker, former wife Judy Melton, and was preceded in death by Suzanne Taylor Lybecker, and sisters Joyce Finell and Doris Clemans. Russ and Wendy shared an extended blended family of 8 children, 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. A quiet, humble man of strong faith, Russ expressed the preference that any memorial donations be sent to Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Kailua Kona or to your favorite food bank. Services will be held on January 9, 2026, in Kailua Kona HI, and June 2026 in Bellingham WA.
