Ruth Will Beckh

BECKH, Ruth Will, 102, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Patriot's Colony Convalescent Center in Williamsburg. She was born October 3, 1905 in Richmond to Eda and Fritz Will Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, F. Karl Beckh, a longtime furrier in Richmond; her sister, Hilda W. Pearman; and brothers, Fritz Jr., Erwin H., Matthew P. and Stuart C. Will. An avid gardener, Mrs. Beckh was a charter member of the Thomas Jefferson Garden Club and also a member of the River Road Garden Club and Richmond Women's Club. She was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ, serving as president of the Ladies' Guild and as the first woman on the church council. She attended Sweet Briar College and served on the Alumni Holland Bulb Project. Mrs. Beckh is survived by three daughters, Jacqueline Price of Virginia Beach, Hilda Sherman and husband, Dr. Wray Sherman Jr., of Williamsburg, and Jean Robertson and husband, Stewart Robertson, of Kingwood, Texas. She also leaves nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 25, in Riverview Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to St. John's United Church of Christ, 503 Lombardy St., Richmond, Va. 23220, or a charity of your choice. The Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
