Ruth Berkowitz Obituary

Ruth Berkowitz
Ruth Berkowitz of Bridgeport and Fairfield died peacefully in her home on July 4th, 2025, at the age of 97. Ruth was born on May 24th, 1928, in Bridgeport to Nathan and Frances Golde. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Berkowitz, and for 59 years lived on Beechwood Lane in Fairfield, where she never missed a morning walk around the neighborhood. Throughout her life, Ruth dedicated her time volunteering in the community, including the Jewish Community Center, Hadassah, the Jewish Home, and her children's schools. She enjoyed many hobbies, including golf, bridge, and reading the New York Times every day.
Most important to Ruth was her family. She adored her three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them and taking a genuine interest in their lives. Ruth was endlessly curious and able to engage in conversation thoughtfully on a wide range of topics that were on their minds. She was the life of every family occasion-from birthdays to bridal showers to holiday dinners-and would always encourage the party to continue late into the night.
Ruth was survived by her children, Natalie Berkowitz, Michael Berkowitz and his wife Adriana, and Lynn Schwimer and her husband Neil, as well as her six grandchildren: Jonathan Hadad and his fiancé Lilly Derby, Daniel Hadad, Lindsay Melnick and her husband Adam, Alec Berkowitz, Julian Berkowitz, and Lukas Salazar and his fiancé Evelyn Vargas. Ruth was also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jakob, Ava, and Sophia. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Jack, as well as her three siblings: sister Dorothy Fialk, and brothers Herb Golde and Phil Golde.
