Ruth was a dear friend and my mentor when we worked together at Akiba Hebrew Academy. At first, we taught together, sharing students and developing ways to help every student that we shared in common. During the unfortunate events after her accident, our shared students visited Ruth, created astoundingly complex activities to keep her active as she recovered, and tried to keep her spirits positive. When Ruth was selected to begin Akiba's first middle school, I was honored to become her assistant and later, when she retired, to attempt to step into her shoes. A profoundly gifted educator, exemplary mother, grandmother, and wife, we all enjoyed parties at the Bricklins' home in Mt. Airy, her cooking and hospitality. I was also fortunate to be a guest at her home in Brookline. Ruth influenced much of my decision-making as an educator and colleague. Most of all, I NEVER heard Ruth say an unkind word about anyone. May her memory be a blessing.
