Ruth Childers, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025 at the age of 73 at UNC Health Blue Ridge. She was surrounded by family and friends.
A true woman of faith, Ruth found joy in serving the Lord. She instilled her strong values and religious beliefs in her family and led by example volunteering endlessly. She lived a life guided by her deep belief in the power of prayer and love of Christ. She filled everyone’s lives with love and laughter. She was loved by many and will be missed greatly. Her light will now shine on us all from above.
She is survived by her spouse of 54 years, Wade Hampton Childers, Jr.; daughter, Holly Franklin (Jody Franklin); son, Micah Childers (Sarah Beth Wilson Childers); four grandchildren, Taylor Noblitt, Zach Franklin (Lauren), Hunter Childers, and Miller Childers; three great-grandchildren, Remington, Journey, and Beau; seven nieces and nephews; and three siblings, Bill Withers (Bysie), Bruce Withers (Robin), and Amy Withers-Pena (Orlando).
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at Clinchfield Baptist Church on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McDowell Pregnancy Care Center or to Clinchfield Baptist Church.
