Ruth Cowan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Molalla Funeral Chapel on Dec. 30, 2025.
Ruth Margaret Cowan, age 94, of Molalla, died November 14, 2025 at Faithful Hearts Adult Care Home in Oregon City, Oregon. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Beverly, of Molalla, Oregon; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Janice Cowan, of Baker City, Oregon; and six grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Paul, and son, Ronald Sr. passed in 2014 and 2009 respectively.

Ruth was born February 10, 1931, in Canby (Dryland), Oregon to John (JC) and Frieda Walch. Ruth and Paul were high school sweethearts, graduating from Molalla Union High School in 1949 and married December 6, 1949.

Ruth faithfully served her family and church. The enriched soil of Paul and Ruth's garden and pasture provided such abundant produce Ruth would be busy all summer preserving fruits, vegetables and meat. With patience and prayer, she supported her husband and children through their varied life's journeys. She was an excellent pianist and used her gift in worship services at the Assembly of God churches of Molalla and Silverton. She was also a Sunday School teacher of multiple generations of children in those churches. She is fondly remembered by many pupils. In 2004 Ruth was awarded the Assembly of God Oregon District Teacher of the Year and the Billie Davis Certificate of Excellence.

The family thanks the many people who cared for mother: specifically Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center, Faithful Hearts Adult Care Home, Tenderly Hospice and Canby Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Silverton Assembly of God, 437 N. James St., Silverton, Oregon. All are welcome.
