Ruth Marie Crouse

Interestingly, I received an email today asking me to share a memory of Dr. Crouse because I had a dream about her last night. The dream featured me in one of Dr. Crouse's French classes. I was taking a test, and I raised my hand and asked her in French if she could repeat the questions in the test again. In her usual, friendly manner, she smiled and repeated the questions. She also pointed out an accent mark related to one of the questions.

I miss Dr. Crouse and think of her often.

Dr. Crouse was my Spanish professor at E&H. With her encouragement, I added a Spanish major to my English one and taught language labs. She was a wonderful mentor. I have taught ES/MS/HS Spanish during my teaching career thanks to her! My condolences to her family.

I took a French class from Dr. Crouse at Emory and Henry College. She was an excellent professor and always had a pleasant smile when I raised my hand to answer a question. I have fond memories of that class and still have the textbook.

She was an excellent Spanish teacher. I got 2 B´s and 2 C´s from her. She was tough, but vey fair. I admired her and wish I had taken more Spanish classes she taught. She had a daughter while I was in her class and she returned to teaching 10 days after giving birth. I was impressed then and I´m more impressed nearly 58 years later. I am so very sad to learn of Dr. Cruise´s death. She was an amazing foreign language teacher and I was honored to have been her student. She had faith in my being able to handle an upper level French class when I thought I would fail my first term at E&H. She gave me the confidence to stick with her and not only was I successful in that class but also in the next level class I took from her. I know she is standing in the very presence of God with Him saying, "Well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter into thy rest."
